City Rail Link (CRL) Site & Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) visit
Event ended.
Visit the newly opened "Link Alliance Centre" and get a close look at the Tunnel Boring Machine before it starts her journey under Auckland city.
The City Rail Link (CRL) project unlocks Auckland’s entire rail network. At peak times, a train will turn up and go at least every ten minutes. To construct the underground twin tunnels required for the City Rail Link, a specialist Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) will excavate and install 1.6km of precast concrete segments to form two new rail tunnels between Mt Eden and the city centre. Following mining tradition, the TBM has been named after an inspirational woman - New Zealand Māori rights champion, Dame Whina Cooper. TBM tunnelling is due to start in late April 2021. The Link Alliance presentation will cover the work of the Dame Whina Cooper TBM as well as the City Rail Link project. The site walk at Mt Eden will allow guests to see the portal area and the TBM.
